White Smoke - Power Loss

Even though this post is backed by 2013. If your seeing white smoke from a rear view mirror, and you have a DPF filter on the car it is likely your turbo is gone. DPF is supposed to filter out the smoke and the fact that you see any smoke black or white can mean that oil is passing out the seals on the turbo and the turbo has indeed failed. I have been looking at oem turbo photos sitting on benches to get an idea on what im looking at in regards to future repairs. Once the seals blow on these turbos there is no chance in rebuilding them without the same issue happening again or complete detonation. These turbos were built by VW so they can charge people out the rear when they fail. You cant find many replacements "including bearings and seals" unless you go with a stage 2, because the oem turbos also made along with the exhaust manifold as an "all in one" setup. You have to literally pull the motor out of the car to change it on newer models. I assume this is to avoid people making easy and instant turbo swaps on the cars in event one fails. They wanted to prevent owners from buying turbos off of ebay as a cost saving replacement and keep them in the stealership. Depending where you live, if they dont care about emissions. Cut your DPF off and throw it away or store it or something. Back pressure is bad on turbos and thats one of a few reasons why these turbos fail on the TDI models.

Forum Rules and Guidelines

Not add your post to another old intro.

Post copied and moved to general as we don't know what car you drive..

This is a new forum layout which is owned by a company last year that doesn't give a dam with loads of bugs which have been reported in the new thread. There is no TDI Wiki at the moment or original similes which they refuse to install. It doesn't show the car spec/location.

Add your car specs to your signature that will show on every post you make.

Car spec now shows not for all members.
