Hi guys.

I've just read on another forum that oil pumps can fail on CBAA, CBAB, CBAC, CBBB engines at around 100k

Sorry for posting another forum but it saves copy and pasting text and pictures. 2.0TDi 170 CBB oil pump failure - 09 Passat Highline

Why won't engine builders ever learn be previous mistakes? The old V4 and V6 Fords had an hex oil pump drive shaft on these engines that used to fail.

So it looks like an oil pump drive and timing belt change at 100k. It should be covered buy VW as its their stupid mistake.

Mine is CBBB if you see my car spec and signature.

If you look through 2.0 Litre TDI Common Rail BIN5 ULEV Engine it shows 2 balance shafts and an Duocentric Oil Pump gear driven.

SSP 403 2.0l TDI Engine with Common Rail Fuel Injection System.pdf is another one on the same engine.

Crasher (who owns an Audi/VW workshop which I visited a few weeks ago) has posted an update in that link he says:

Keith, the Golf 6 does not employ such as system, it uses no balancer shaft and a simple reliable chain drive to the pump. I have never ever seen or heard of one failing.
I'm not sure what a 2.0 litre TDI Common Rail BIN5 ULEV engine is as there are no engine numbers or power outputs but it has balance shafts and gear driven oil pump.

google it this info shows.

The 2.0-litre TDI engine is compliant with the stringent Tier 2, Bin 5/ULEV II emissions standards that apply in California and all 50 US states. The engine delivers 104kW / 320Nm and can be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission, or the six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) automatic transmission.
Its funny that jlight has this 09 Passat Highline Estate and the dealer took the sump of and reported that the oil pump had gone (hexagonal drive worn round) the big ends are off (one of which is cracked in half and the corners are worn away) and there's swarf in the oil.
