Hello guys.
New member here with not so much experience in cars.
My vw JETTA tdi has a check engine light on, I checked it and its the MAF SENSOR. I took it out for a cleaning and I noticed that on one side there's should be a transistor, well not on my sensor. I took apart the filter box and the sensor assembly to see if I can find it inside. No luck. So now the question is, should I be worried that might get somewhere where it can make some damage or that's how it's supposed to be???
Do I need to buy a new sensor if that part is missing? Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forum. welcometomyturbodies

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

Transistor? How did you figure that out? I'm not familiar with the BRM-engine-cars, but on the older ones, the MAFs housing has a place for a diode (I believe) that only exists on the MAFs for the gasoline-powered models... The MAFs on these cars are known for burning out after a while - especially if the factory air filter system has been replaced by an aftermarket product utilizing different type of media. A proper scan (VCDS) will narrow it down, but you're probably in the market for a replacement MAFs...

That looks like Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 1 (G42) which there are loads of error codes for. Which could be in the MAF sensor and there are loads of error codes for this.
