Golf Mk 4 GT TDi 130 PD 2003 Reg
Hope somebiody can help me diagnose my fault please?
Plenty of power accompanied by clouds of black smoke then when I get up to around 3 - 3.5K Revs the engine note changes (like turbo shut down, but maybe not?) then black smoke stops ... car continues running but is flat in response / no power. Stop engine, start again ... repeat of same scenario. Disconnect MAF Sensor plug on the pipe from Airbox and smoke stops altogether but power is well down. Disconnect vacuum pipe on EGR valve and block the vacuum pipe off ... makes no difference with EGR vacuum pipe connected or disconnected & blocked off.
Does not go into Limp Mode at any stage ... or at least no light comes on etc.
I can hear 'Turbo whistle wind-up' from around 1500 revs.
No boost pipe disconnect / leak noise ... even from under the car and a rattle check on all joints etc.
Hope that is enough for somebody to offer a likely cause ... all comments welcome.
