No start after timing belt change. Any ideas?

If he can not answer your questions satisfactorily, he has no ALH experience and is just guessing about the timing.

Your complaint does reek of incorrect pump timing.
Also your TDC & CAM relationship could be off as well.

There is a great shop in Weare NH that can get you going and also give you an opinion on the quality of the parts used.

A few dollars spent now can save a thousand or two down the road.

If interested, send me a private message for the shop's info.

Agreed on the Weare location... Not really next door, though... a bit closer is a shop in Hookset...

Yuri.
Yes, I am familiar with them.

CCBB,

Thanks soooo much!

Ok so, I'll need to disengage the tensioner, loosen the 3 IP sprocket bolts and when the slack is off the cam sprocket, remove that. Is that correct?
You can get away with leaving the tensioner set to where it should be.
Bring the crank to TDC .
Loosen the cam pulley bolt a few threads, pop the pulley loose. now because you are close, turn the cam a little in order to get the cam tool in place. Loosen the three pump bolts and set the pump into the correct position.
Recheck TDC before tightening the cam bolt and 3 pump bolts.
If everything is okay, tighten the bolts, remove the cam tool, your tensioner i still correct.
Crank it over and it will start right up if the fuel is there.

Another note: the tensioner center nut, needed to be fully loosened to release the drag on the tensioner, before you use the spanner/pin wrench or you'll shear off the pins. I almost had a disaster.
I hope you didn't adjust the tensioner with any of the bolts tight on pump or cam as this will throw off your TDC again.

You didn't need to loosen the tensioner if you followed my instructions. Its a bear to reset with the bolts tight.
