I am looking at koni reds, bilstein tc, bilstein hd.

I want something that is comfortable for highway runs, and something that will last a long time. I am also planning on replacing the mounts and anything else that needs to be replaced.

It depends, do you like your ride firm, or soft? What size tires / what springs are you on? I am assuming stock tires/springs, probably the koni reds. I have tried the bilstein tc, and it's a little harsh without being refined. If you have stock tires and get something hard but refined, the tires will take some of the bounce out too.

I have the bilstein TC on a passat wagon but I would not get them again. The firmness is acceptable and it rides fine on good roads but that's not the point of shocks :) When I go over a sharp bump, it really jars the car. I like a hard ride but not it's a little more jarring than other hard shocks.

On the original suspension, any of the above would be an improvement.

My personal suggestion is to replace all the rubber strut mounts/parts, koni reds would be worth a try.
