Hello all

Thanks for having me on board the forum.

About me: Two Golf GT TDI 110s lived here until recently, one has just gone, to be replaced in a couple of weeks by a new GT TDI 140. We owned the 110s from new, so I have a lot of history with this model. The cars were a 2000 model and a 2001 model (the one that's still with us). Luckily, both cars have proved to be almost completely waterproof (waterproof is always good in Scotland).

My main leisure interest is searching for solutions for limp mode! I rarely contribute to forums, usually finding that I know less than those already on there, but I read lots, and appreciate the time given by contributors. Having little experience of posting, I'm likely to make mistakes (best to get that in now, I thought).

I do all my own maintenance on the cars (though I hope the imminent Mk VI will give me some peace for a bit). I'm mostly successful, though rarely fast (it works for me).

I was prompted to join because of reading some of the FAQs on limp mode, which I'm quietly pursuing again, calmly and without panic. I still have lots to read, but maybe once I've done that, I'll see if I can get some help here. I've asked my neighbours opposite for advice on limp mode, but they're no use at all. Is that normal for sheep to know so little about mechanical stuff?

Welcome, great intro! Exactly what is a Golf GT? Is that like a GTD?

Do people talk in Scotland like in the movie Hot Fuzz? Or like Kathleen Mcdermott as Pippa in Dead Set?

If you're stuck on any steps please ask what you've done like any tests and their results. This is how the articles get improved - people discover more problems and solutions and an active management adds them to the FAQ.

The GT is a 140PS TDI motor which supposed to be the same as the GTD but the GTD is chipped a bit more by the factory. The GT is the only Golf that has cruise control as standard you have to pay £225 to have it as an option on other models. It has the Tyre pressure monitoring system as standard. There are differences in the interior. ;)

UK GT just click along to the GT.

UK GTD click along to the GTD.

GTD is a higher spec (and price) than the GT TDI. The GTD has 170 BHP against the GT TDI's 140, and has specific body styling features which the GT doesn't get. Other differences are in interior and exterior trim levels, making the GDT much more individualistic and GTI-like. For more info, you need to find someone who really knows the GTD, which I don't - I'm sure to have missed something inportant, like tartan seat fabric...sorry, I mean Jacaro Mono cloth, wash my mouth out. The GT TDI is a lot of comfort and refinement with a reasonable amount of grunt, while the GTD seems to have the accent weighted more towards performance first and foremost.

Thanks for your willingness to help, and I'll take you up on the offer, just as soon as I've checked out the FAQs and the two cultural references you mention. Maybe you could post an impression of the accent you have in mind:) In general though, as to how we speak in Scotland, our leaders use the same orifice as those in most other countries. Does this help at all?
