VCDS - Heated Rear Window Timer

8193 Views 14 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Keithuk
Hi guys/gals.

I've been trying out my new VCDS hoping I could extend the time the heated rear window stops on for. I've searched the forum and FAQ and nothing shows up.

On previous cars its normally been on for 15 minutes which has been great for my 15 minute trip to work and back. This one only stops on for 10 mintes so I have to press it again just to keep it heated. If I leave it it will slowly mists up again.

Does anyone with a VCDS know if it can be adjusted?

google it brings back

Ok I forgot to add my full AutoScan. Now it did show a couple of faults but the items work.

02214 - Tire Pressure Warning by the date is 2010.14.04 I'm not sure if the dealer scanned this and set it but I don't remember this being in April. It went back in March for the new clutch and scan then in August for a scan.

00897 - Windshield Washer Pump (V5) the washers work ok.

Now the strange thing on the AutoScan is you have to select the chassis type. It shows 1K - Golf V and 5K - Golf VI 1999>. The VIN is 1K so why is that a Golf MK5? If its got the VIN number why can't it find the chassis type? It appears to show any mileage reference in km but I can't see how to change this? There are other annoying bugs with VCDS that we need to sort out if we had the seperate section. I did a Controller scan to see which controllers it found but thats another lot of big test so I won't add it to here.

This is another reason for http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f10/vcds-vag-com-section-here-3918/ ;)

Edit: Ok I've removed the log file and added it as an attachment because this thread is getting bigger with threadjackers. If you want to see the log file then just download it.

At least on US Golf, you can extended the timer through CECM adaptation:

Cheers Chitty.

So thats on 09- Centr. Elect. button - Adaptation - Measuring Blocks I shall have to have a look what shows?

Where did you get that picture from one you have stored? ;)
2010 Golf manual TDI. Yes, I have many screenshots from various cars and unused pictures for reference. I just have to find a good place to put them.
2010 Golf manual TDI have you found one?

Chitty, I don't have my own VCDS yet (soon, I hope), so I can't look for myself. Is there anyplace in the CECM Adaptation to change the rear wiper interval?

Here are the 2 screens which have something. I don't know what they do though.

Here's an idea that worked for the front wipers on older VW: if you turn the rear wiper on, shut it off, and turned it back on, does it change the interval to the time for setting the on-off? Older VW didn't have a little switch to adjust the intermittent wipers so they used a relay that you set the time by turning the wipers on and off.

First, I wonder if this wiper discussion shouldn't be split off into a separate thread. I'm more than a little embarrassed to find myself guilty of threadjacking, as since I'm admin/moderator of a moderately large car forum myself (classiczcars.com, shameless plug), I really ought to know better.

Not sure what those might do either. I just looked at my original long code that I saved when I did my original VCDS mods (borrowed cable), and mine is 4D in Byte 21, so mine is now set as shown. I guess I'll need to experiment with those once I get my own cable.

Yeah, I'm familiar with that programmable relay. In the USA they started showing up in the early '90s. My parents' '92 Passat came with it, and maybe my '90 Corrado, too. My '91 GLI did not, but I retro-fitted it to that car.

But I hadn't thought to try that on the rear wiper of the '10 Golf. So I did try it this afternoon, and it failed. The rear wiper wipes once every 5-6 seconds, regardless.

I was hoping to find this in the Adaptation section, it looks more like the right spot.

I've tried the quick on-off trick...didn't work for me. And no combination of those check off boxes (see Chitty's screen shots) in the long coding helper did anything for me either unfortunately. I'm pretty sure based on the way this stuff works that there has to be a way to get the interval changed or get it to wipe continuously, but I haven't figured it out yet. If you can change the time on the rear defrost I'm sure you can adjust the rear wiper. I just havent spent enough time on that particular function. I'll be interested to see if someone comes up with a solution!
Yes it looks like this thread has been threadjacked guys. If you have a VCDS problem please make a new one or add a comment in http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f10/vcds-vag-com-section-here-3918/ ;)

Oops...lol, well at least I didn't start it...lol

Anyway, I didn't even realize a VCDS section opened!! I see that its really in its infancy...but no one will really be able to find it unless they know about it. (I tried to find it pretending I was not used to the site) So I'll definitely help promote use of it (And use it). Thanks Keith, I know you've been promoting the separate section for a little while now. Hopefully it will prove to help keep things organized and easy to find.

And thanks to ChittyChittyBangBang for trying out the separate section :)

:pukerofl (so this is rolling on the floor laughing and puking? Interesting...lol)
There is currently no vag com / vcds section here but there will be shortly. Still working out the details so please stay tuned...
Ok I've gone into 09-Cent. Elect. and selected Adaptation-10 selected Rear Window & Outside Mirror Heater Activation Time. The default setting is 15=600 seconds or 10 minutes. I increased this to 21 which is 840 seconds or 14 minutes. I shall have to see if it works ok.

Cheers Chitty for the info it does work on UK MK6 models. ;)
Yes it works a treat is now stops on for 14 minutes. Again this is something missing from the VCDS help which they should included as part of their installation package. Every app that I make has its own help file so users know all the ins and outs of the app. All Ross-Tech supply is a basic pdf file which isn't adequate.

Roll on the http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f10/vcds-vag-com-section-here-3918/ if we get it?

Thanks again Chitty.;)
