turbo specs

Does anyone know the CFM of the stock turbo? What about the upgraded turbos?

Not sure about upgraded turbos, I'll try to put together a chart. Of the top of my head, not sure the CFM but it can handle about 15-20 psi in normal driving, stock setup.

More specs below.

COMPRESSOR STAGE:
Wheel Trim - 56
Wheel Diameter (inch)
inside dia. - 1.29
outside dia. - 1.73
Hsg A/R - 0.33
Max Flow - 18 pounds per minute

TURBINE STAGE:
Wheel Trim - 70
Wheel Diameter (inch)
inside dia. - 1.42
outside dia. - 1.69
Turbine A/R - 0.65

COMPRESSOR CONFIGURATION (inch):
Hose inlet - 1.75
Hose outlet - 1.50
TURBINE CONFIGURATION:
Hose inlet: 3 bolt inlet
Hose outlet: 3 bolt outlet

I think I remember about 280 CFM. Can't find where I saw it though.
Thanks, something like how much power it has, price, what you need to install, etc. would be nice.
I think that a problem you are going to see is that many aftermarket turbo makers who make "hybrid" turbos won't want their specs released or don't give out that information because then other people can copy it. You are best making an estimate of how much power it will make with approprite supporting mods.

I've been trying to put together a list but that is the exact problem.
How about just a link page to the vendors then? Let the vendors talk about the turbo themselves.

A turbo upgrade chart is up. It covers all TDI for the US/Canada market. There's room for improvement so expect it to change in the future.

It's not possible to list all the CFM , possible PSI that they can support, how much power it makes, etc, since these figures are not known, the vendors don't want to give them out since it would be propriety info, or because those values are highly subjective and vary by car, setup, tuning, etc.
I'm surprised you can't figure out which turbos are being used by looking at the garret turbo website. Although I suppose they are making some mods to them and using street toys as well.
I doubt the hybrid makers would give out their specs because it's proprietary info.
I'll ask and if there are any updates they'll go up.
Don't forget that a lot of these mods are by trial-error engineering. That's not necessarily a bad thing if it produces a good product that ends up being a retail product but in thoses cases you won't have a flow chart, you might get a CFM estimate, but you should have at least the wheel sizes. The tweaks to the housings will also effect things. And of course tuning makes a big difference too.

Yes, that adds to the difficulty of getting specs. It's best to contact the vendor directly to see what supporting mods you need and compare. This list is just so one can quickly see what's out there.
Made some major additions, added specs for many mk4 turbos.
A flying TDI? That would be cool. 2nd on budget being first. No point in buying a huge turbo if that's all you can affford.
Good idea to leave off prices since those are subject to change.
Why do people call it a vnt15 if it's a garret vnt1759?
So who has tried some of these turbos? How reliable are aftermarket turbos.
They should be reliable but sometimes they prove to not be. The problem is inconsistency during assembly. Aftermarket turbos can't guarantee how much power they make either since it varies by setup. But even worse, some of the turbos aren't mass tested so think of the manufacturer's quote as an estimate.

As long as the manufacturer warranties it, you should be good but remember that they will never warranty installation costs or down time. There were some complaints against street toys of poor welds and turbos that leaked and blew up. I don't know how they turned out, check out the thread on tdiclub and you can see the complaints. Garrett only sells 1 VNT 17 upgrade so all the bolt-on turbos from other sellers are all hybrids. You could get other stock turbos to fit but they all need some minor mods to fit.
