Golf TDI PD.... Driving Car Home the other night, sparing no horses, car cut out, ignition lights came on for a split second and returned to normal. Went to accelerate slowly to see if everything was ok and there came a loud screech from the engine bay, sounded like it came from the drivers side of engine bay. All seemed to be okay for the next few miles then could find a slight shudder from engine. Next day went to start car, fired straight off and the engine began the shuddering once again. Drove a small bit and the shuddering began to get worse and running very lumpy and then put out greyish clear smoke. Wondering if this could be turbo failure or maybe not??? Any suggestions would be great!!!
Thanks...

Maybe, you could pop off the inlet pipe to the manifold and check for ecxessive oil and maybe the inlet to the turbo if possible and see if you can feel play in the turbo shaft. It might also be worth taking off the timing belt cover if the noise came from the driver side incase the noise was the tensioner and the belt has jumped some teeth.
