I have a Diesel 2001 Beetle with 302K miles. I think the timing is off. I removed the timing belt cover and found that ½ the belt is missing in a small section. Do you think the engine was damaged?
You wont really know until you try lining everything up, follow the faq for lining it up and see how the cam and crank are sitting in relation to each other, it wont matter if the pump has jumped.
2nd, line it up BY HAND to TDC and if everything is spot on, there was no damage. If it has moved at the injection pump only, there is no damage from that. If it has moved at the crank or cam, there is damage.
