I've been helping someone on another forum where the soft touch material from the door handles rubs off.

The soft touch material is a coating on top of hard plastic. The only way to get rid of it is to scrape it off with a low grade steel wool or brillo pad. You can leave it as exposed plastic or repaint it but I prefer to just leave it as exposed plastic.

IMO, the door handles and the headlight switch are the first places where it will get scraped off because that's where fingernails are most likely to touch the "soft touch" coating.

this is an article on door card removal - it should be all you need to know about removing the handle, etc.

how to remove the light switch.

yea, that happens on all the vws, even older vws but they didn't get it as bad.. audis too, I've seen the same problem on the a4. I don't know if they use better stuff on the a6, the a8 is very good stuff..leather everywhere!
