Hello,

I am Howard and I live in Montana where it is very cold. -5 F at the moment. My Jetta will not start at temps below +15 F. This is the first winter that I have owned this car and it is my first diesel. I have put in fuel addative and I allow the glow plugs to warm several times before I turn it over on cold days. Often it labors to start after about 5-10 seconds of cranking however sometimes it just goes "blagh.... I give up". I have had to jump the car several times this winter. I should also mention that there seem to be several weird electrical bugs that I just live with because the thought of paying someone to fix them scares me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Howard

Check your pump timing. If it is off, cold starting can be prolonged. Had one where the lower belt sprocket worked a little loose and wore the locating key and let the timing slip. would not start cold.

You did not mention a glow plug code so I assume all of those are fine
