Hi There,
I have a 1998 New Beeetle TDI and am experiencing clutch clatter or hop on starts if I'm not careful.
Car has 125k since I purchased new, can anyone tell me if it's time for a clutch or might it be a hydraulic issue. I would think it is more a weak pressure plate but looking for advise.

Sounds like it may be the dmf (dual mass flywheel) packing up, that's pressuming your car has one which I think it does. It is a manual isn't it?

have you owned the car for its lifetime? if not maybe the previous owner put a light weight FW in there? Light weight FW's chatter like crazy!

Yes it does more when car is warm. Quite a bit on a hot day!
