I have a Jetta TDI Mark V 2005.5 BRM TDI with about 150k on it. Recently, I have noticed very intermittently when taking off in 1st year no matter how much you push down the accelerator, the RPM's do not increase. The car shakes and doesn't sound right and it pours black smoke out the exhaust during this . It's like it cannot get over the 2k RPM. When we shift to 2nd gear, it's fine.... This causes a safety factor when pulling out into traffic and not being able to increase speed fairly rapidly.

During normal use, the car feels like it has a hard time passing the 1800-2k RPM mark. After it passes that, it accelerates very quickly and operates normally.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Cams, Lifters, and Throttle body have been replaced.

I had the same problem when one of my camsfaft follower was completely destroy, and after all reparations. After plugged a VCDS and cleared all error codes, the car runs like a new.

Did you ever figure out the problem? My BRM does the exact same thing. I’m going to be doing the cam next weekend.
