I have a 1999 Jetta A-4 body style (late year 1999) with 240K miles and I love it. My friend Joe has a 2006 and we both decided to replace our suspension today. The 2006 model uses a 12 point bolt system that no-one and I mean no one has in stock. We spent over 4 hours driving to various auto parts stores with no luck - so the 06 was bumped off the lift and the 1999 was up.
I made the mistake of purchasing struts without fully researching the fit and finish reports on-line and learned the hard way that they do not fit easily as a replacement strut on the 99 Jetta. Simply stated the fit is just too tight and took a long time to get the front struts seated properly.
It all worked out in the end and the ride is much improved.
