Fixed the constant low power with MAF replacement, still getting limp mode under aggressive acceleration or upon hitting 80 mph (flat and level highway). While going through limp mode fixes have started with the easy stuff, cleaning snow screen, pulled the fuel tank float to check for tank moss (negative, clean and bright), replaced the fuel filter and o-rings. Having a hard starting issue with a TON of white smoke on cold startup along with rough idle for about 30-60 seconds. After warming up, subsequent starts do not yield any smoke or rough idle.

Also, I was looking for a trans dipstick? Reading though the owners manual and there isn't even a mention of any preventative maint for the auto trans, and the forum troubleshooting makes it look like the only way to check fluid level is to add until it pukes out the overfill hole? Not very efficient...

I have had a leak under the car since bringing it home, and finally will get the chance to look at it today on a rack. If it's the rear main, I see a procedure on the toubleshooting section to replace it, but no information on how to pull an auto. Anything I need to specifically look out for?

Starting to think this thing's going to get the best of me...

Similar Issues

I have the same model, 2002 Jetta. I am having similar problems, rough idle for the first 30 seconds or so. Loss of power when the engine goes under loading, uphill/sometimes just acceleration...
I just read the trouble codes and got a p1556. Which I think means that there is a leak somewhere in the Turbo Wastegate. I was thinking that it was possibly the VNT vanes getting stuck or (Im hoping) a loose vacuum line somewhere.
This probably doesnt help, if I find anything else out I will post.
