I was just wondering if it was just a vag thing but my seatbelts are really sluggish to retract. I've had a look, cleaned them and given the mechanism some silicone spray but it feels like the spring tensioners are a bit weak. Is this common or is it just me?:)

Well yours is 10 years old now so they are bound to get a bit sluggish. ;)

my seatbelts get shut in the door all the time!
12 years of compression and extension 4 to 8 times just about everyday would wear anything out lol
wonder if there's a rebuild kit
or maybe a new spring...

Be careful what you wish for... The seat belts (or, at least the front seat belts) are part of the so-called passive restraint (airbag) system, and have explosive retractors in them... That means that not only must caution be used when working with them, but they're bound to be rather costly...
