Hi, 2012 Passat TDI, push button start, 102,000 miles. Starts first turn, as soon as the starting process goes to run it kills. If you keep your foot on the brake and push the button a second time it just turn over and will start after 5 to 10 seconds or. I don't crank it any more than 10 seconds before stopping and staring the process over. If I brake, push button it starts and kills. If I remove my foot from brake, touch botton the dash shoots down. Starting the process over, brake and botton it will always start and kill. Than for no reason it will start and run, no earlier than the third try. It has started on the third try and as many as 12 tries either process. Once running it runs perfect. Hot or cold the process is the same.

Push Button has been replaced.

This started 2 days after changing the timing belt. I did pull everything and check timing mark and pully location, high pressure pump, everything checked good.

Just resolved this issue I'm my 2014 Passat. Check the 3 bolts on the cam sprocket and make sure they are centered in the slots. Once I adjusted them in mine it starts without any issues. This after a lot of troubleshooting.

Did you resolve this issue? Pretty much same issue over here. Dealer said it was the starter. Replaced it myself and still acts the same and now my glow plug light is flashing while engine running which is new....

Yes, I watched several how to timing belts installs, I bought a kit to mark crank. Turns out I was 1 tooth off. No idea how it happened. I think I was using the wrong top dead center???? dealer reset timing and it starts and runs fine
