I just read today in Diesel Performance Magazine that they reto-fitted a Jetta TDI with the "Snow" Water/Meth Injector Kit. Before doing this the car on the dynometer hit 151HP and was getting 38 mpg combined. After the install the car was getting 41.7 mpg and 170 HP. Thus, a bump of about 10% in fuel economy and 19 HP increase. Have no idea of the cost of the kit or install but interesting as that would equal the 170 GTD.

Old idea and it works somewhat in theory but remember that power is regulated by fuel which is regulated by the computer. The car was already chipped (151hp) so I'll bet this the biggest factor.

Another concern is the byproducts of combustion clogging the emissions filter. IMHO, water injection most useful on high boost gasoline engines to delay detonation. The TDI engines and probably every modern passenger car diesel engine is direct injection. There's no fuel until the engine injects it, therefore no detonation.

Exactly. It's not just the water/meth kit, the car was already chipped and the kit let the chip tuning work better. It might be nice for power but you'll never recoup the cost through FE.
