Do the TDI Jettas perform better in the snow with ABS than without?

Do you mean ESP instead of ABS? ABS is braking ESP is stability control (Electronics Stabilization Program). Maybe ASR? ASR is Anti-Slip Regulation.

I mean ESP and ABS.
Probably since there's more weight over the front wheels due to the heavier engine.

ABS is anti lock brakes, it pulses the brakes when you stop and lose traction. ESP and ASR help handling in snow.

But tires are by far the best thing you can do to improve traction since there is a big difference between snow tires and regular tires. There is no substitute for the correct tires.
Just watch out for hidden bumps in deep snow, it can tear off the skid plate. There might be hidden potholes in the snow too that can bust your oil pan. Perfect excuse for a metal skid plate!
Try a Subaru or Audi - AWD DOES make a difference.

True but I'm not in a rally or going off road, I don't want the extra weight and fuel hit of AWD.
