Hello,
I just bought a used 06 Jetta TDI, 5 speed, from a local VW dealership. Overall the car is in excellent condition and only has 56 000 kms (35 000 miles) on it. Option-wise it has a sunroof, leather, and alloys. There was one issue I noticed when test driving it and then one issue I noticed on the way home after I bought it. They agreed to take care of the issues but I don't trust them since they have lead me to believe that I was given such an amazing deal as it was. They talked about it how it has been fully inspected and everything is in top condition, etc.
First issue: The car does not go well into first gear. The shifter feels stiff going into first and sometimes I have to move it over and go again. If I push it firmly to the left and then up, it will go in okay. It is not my imagination as I drove a few other examples and the shifting was not like that at all. My first thought is that it has something to do with the clutch? The shifting just doesn't feel quite right. I think the sales guys think it is a powertrain thing so they think it will be covered under the power train warranty. However, if it is the clutch, I'm sure there will be a fight. Any thoughts?
Second issue: When driving in a straight line, the wheel is off to the right about an inch or two. There is a slight pull to the right but not terrible. The tires seem fine and the pressue is good. Everything feels solid and the car handle well. Would this just be an alignment problem? Could it be anything else? I am calling them on this because they told me the car did not need anything. Again, I am hoping they will not attempt to charge me to fix it.
Other than these 2 problems, the car seems great. It runs great, drives well, and seems very well taken care of. I regret not having the problems taken care of before buying the vehicle. I have bought enough cars to know better but I got caught in the moment.
I also received the pressure about getting the extended warranty. They wanted $2400 for 4 years / 80 000 kms. I believe there is an option to get 1600-1800 back if you don't use it. I turned it down but with these issues I am having, maybe I should get it?
Thanks for any advice or insight you may have. This is a great site by the way. I just stumbled across it and have been reading through it for the last couple of hours.
