I own a 01 jetta with 160k and the other morning when I started it it had a rough idle, it was vibrating to car. I know its a deisel but it was like I had a plug that was not firing. I decided to move it to take my truck and in like 10 feet the roughness stopped and has not been back. Could an injector cause this? Is there a cleaner that is safe for them? Is that something they do with 100k mainatance?Or do I tell the wife it's fixed? Thanks
Diesel purge is great. Put the feed and return line in the can and run the car. A bad injector could cause rough idle. Also check the timing belt because if it's off then it can cause all sorts of problems.
It could be a sensor problem too. Common problems are the coolant temp sensor. There could be something else happening but run the cleaner through and don't worry about it unless it happens again. Also check for error codes and see if there were any tripped by the incident. These guys diesel purge and even give you a short piece of hose. http://tdiparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=448
