I have a VW Beetle in my driveway that has the key immob chips deregistered - again. This is not the first time and it probably wont be the last. It is very costly to get the keys reprogrammed every time.

Im considering a full and permanent disable of the immob if I can find one. Dont trust the whole immob setup any more.

Does anyone know if the pinger in the column ignition lock contains the 'smarts' or is it all done in the car computer?

TIA

The immobilizer resides in the instrument cluster and ECU. The only full and permanent disable of the immobilizer on your VW is chip tuning. They have to go into the ECU and remove it. If it were too easy to remove it wouldn't be a very effective anti theft device would it?

Did you have to take it to the dealer to have it reprogrammed last time?
