Yes.

The backup camera is a bit more work because you have to run your own wiring back to the license plate. You just have to add the sat. antenna (can use aftermarket piece and put behind dashboard instead of running it to the roof) and change the software coding for your car using VCDS. Dealer should also be able to handle software coding.

If you decide to do it, please document it and share your experience. If it has step by step pics, it will qualify for the writeup contest, prize is currently $50 e-gift certificate from kermatdi.com!

Thanks, I finally talked my parents into a Treg, but the one they got doesn't have the tech package. I thought I might upgrade it for them, but trying to find out if OEM is the way to go or if I should go for aftermarket.

One advantage of the OEM backup camera is that the guidelines move as you turn the steering wheel. Yes it's a lot more expensive but an aftermarket camera would also require you to run wiring. I have the RNS 510 and am very happy with it. The other thing is that when you lose the signal like in a tunnel or in a canyon of buildings, it uses the vehicle data to dead reckon where you are.

Retro fitting on a 2011 Touareg

Does anyone know if its possible to retro fit the VW Nav stereo with back up camera in a 2010 Treg with the base stereo?
To take this question one step further......Is itpossible to retro fit an OEM camera system intoa 2011 Touareg TDI?? The vehicle isn't DynAudio. The system onboard is called RNS-580 I believe. If anyone know of somewhere I can find info about this or an online source where I can purchase the parts I can probably handle the install myself. I'm kind of hoping that the basic wiring would already be in the car and it would be just a matter of installing the camera and whatever modules that would be required. If not it will probably be a couple of days project because the fit and finish of this car is pretty tight. If I can find the parts I will definitely take lots of pictures throughout the process and write it up as best I can to helpout others wanting to tackle the same project.

Try oemplus.com. I would say yes but you have to add a custom wiring harness which is the hard part. Unless there's an off the shelf part, you would have to look at the wiring diagram and then connect the wires to either the RNS810 or 850 or central electronic module. Then activate it using a VCDS tool so that the car knows that it's been added.

What trim level do you have?
