HI EVERYBODY,

I OWN A JETTA 2006 TDI DSG. I HAVE CHANGED A WORN OFF CAMSHAFT AT 86,000 MILES(VW CHARGED $3000). NOW AGAIN AT 115,000 IS WORN OFF AND PAID $2200 AGAIN TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP. INITIALLY AT 86,000 MILES VW DEALER SAID IT WAS A FAULTY MECHATRONIC CHARGED $4000 AND IT DID NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. THEY REFUSED TO REFUND AFTER THEY FOUND OUT IT WAS THE CAMSHAFT WORN OUT CAUSING THE PROBLEMS.

THEN AT 86,000MILES I HAVE CALLED VW AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO.
BASICALLY THEY REFUSE TO ACNOWLEDGE THERE IS A PROBLEM, UNTIL LOTS OF PEOPLE WILL COME FORWARD AND COMPLAIN.

THEN:

THE ONLY WAY TO ACHIEVE A VW RESOLUTION IS TO REGISTER YOUR PROBLEM IN USA WITH NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA):

https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/Complaint.cfm

AND IF YOU LIVE IN CANADA, PLEASE REGISTER YOUR SAFETY AND COMPLAINT VIA EMAIL TO:

[email protected]

I HAVE MADE A COMPLAINT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER, AS I BOUGHT THE JETTA IN USA AND LIVE IN CANADA. I HAVE RECEIVED FROM TRANSPORT CANADA A PHONE CALL FROM A SENIOR SAFETY AND DEFECT INVESTIGATION. HE RECOMMENDED ME TO GO IN CANADA TO AUTO PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (WWW.APA.CA) TO LAUNCH A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT.

IF YOU REGISTER AND IF THE USA AND CANADIAN GOVERMENT HAS LOTS OF EVIDENCE, THEN THEY PUT VW ON A RECALL AND WE ALL GET COVERED FOR THIS PROBLEM.

WE ALSO HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF THE NUMBERS OF OWNERS WITH PROBLEM. I WELCOME ANY SUGESTIONS.

WISH YOU ALL TO BE SAFE AND HAPPY MOTORING.

Is your CAPS LOCK stuck on or what? It makes it harder to read. Please do start a class action. If you lose, will you pay the million dollar bill from the attorney? They work on contingency but if you lose you still have to pay their expenses and that's about how much it takes to sue a huge corporation. And it's the dealer's fault they did the bad repair on your car, not VW's. Dealers are independent from VW.

I've been thinking about this for a while, I'll start a blog just for VW camshaft problems. There's already a FAQ writeup but maybe that would help draw attention to this issue.

I believe you have recourse against the dealership for the pointless repair. Take them to small claims court.

IMHO, if the car was still under warranty your chances would be much better. But it's not. Since the new camshaft broke so fast, does the independent shop have a warranty or will they work with you in good will? There's no way it should have worn out so fast. Did they replace the lifters and bearings? Maybe they overtightened it?

Hi,
I have used full synthetic Motul or Castrol 505.01, making sure to inquire at Mr Lube what to show me what they have as recommended from VW. I have also changed ALL the time at 10,000 miles interval as per VW. First camshaft was changed by VW dealer. Warranty 20,000 miles. Seems to me that everything goes bad after warranty expires!
2nd camshaft done by independent repair shop! Same owner 40 years! He also confirms that he sees a lot of 2006 VW TDI with camshaft wear. As mentioned, anybody having this issue please register your complaint. Diesel engines are built to last!

06 TDI camshaft wasted

My 06 Jetta TDI lost power, black smoke, and thumping noise this weekend. Independant shop said that camshaft and other items show extreme wear.Always changed with vw oil at dealership or if dealership to busy bought the recommended vw oil and filter from dealership and changed at a lube shop at recommended interval.
I drive road miles and currently have 05 toyota seinna at 275,000 miles, '01 ford crown vic given to niece at 260,000 miles, and my 118,000 mile jetta is trashed!!!!! I have spent more money on the jetta repairs and service than the toyota and ford combined. Is there a class action that I can join?

Unfortunately not. If you decide to start one I will join.

I am so happy to come across your post. I just found out my camshaft has to be replaced as well, at 124k miles. I called VW and explained that this is a known problem (it's all over the internet) but they would not help with the repair costs. I filed a complaint as you suggested, thank you. I am willing to make as much noise as possible about this. I could not be more disappointed with the poor craftsmanship of this car; my first TDI had over 400k miles on it when I sold it. I never once had a problem with the engine.
