All I want to do is fine tune my pump timing after doing my timing belt service, but the dealer wants 300 USdollars to do it! :eek
What tool(s) do I need to do this on a limited budget, and where can I find them? I have a Macintosh laptop but can get access to a windows PC if necessary...

basically I want to fine tune my pump timing on my '98 tdi the cheapest way possible.

any suggestions?

The cheapest way is to use an ebay vag-com cable with ross tech's freeware version of vag com software. It will let you check basic settings like injection pump timing. You need the genuine cable to do more advanced functions with the latest version of their software.
