Hi,

I own a 2002 VW Golf 1,9 TDI with PD ATD engine and I have a major problem.
When I'm driving on a highway in 4th or 5th gear at aproximately 130 kmph the engine loses power. If I restart the engine it works normal again for a while and then it does it again. And again, and again... :(
I have checked for some answers on the net and I have found many usable information (might I say - too many to decide what to do)
A friend of mine who is a mecanic has suggested me to change the turbo charger with a new one, but since it's the pricy thing to do and the car is up for sale I'm looking for some cheaper DIY solutions.

Any suggestions?

Thanx!

If a turbo charger fixes it, how would it run okay after turning it off and back on. Like Seatman said, your limp mode might be able to be fixed without a new turbo. It's normally sticking vanes or worn wires. Did your mechanic friend tell you what error codes the car was throwing? Did they thoroughly inspect the car or did they just tell you this off hand?
