Was adding a section to 1000q:turbochargning, and remembered an error that some people do when port matching.

Keep in mind that some gaskets act as restrictors! Some engines have head gaskets that restrict the return line of coolant or oil to make sure that the liquid has sufficient time to carry away the heat. Always know exactly which port you are porting!
this pretty much sums it up. I was on a gasser forum where someone was commenting about the restrictive head gasket and how they needed to port match the coolant passages. The return lines were made like that for a reason! They slow the coolant flow so that it can take away the heat. I can see why higher flow might take away more heat, but unless you know what the coolant does inside the head, I would recommend in that case, leaving the coolant passage section on the head gasket alone.

Besides, diesels run cooler anyways, so I don't see why overheating could be a problem unless something is clogged or broken

yea, I've been meaning to expand on this part because it could be worded more accurately but it doesn't really fit into the turbocharging article. and that article is already too long.

Having a large volume feeding a bunch of small holes lets them have a more uniform flow. This helps ensure even cooling since water will take the path of least resistance. I have a pic of an example of a head gasket coolant restrictor, still have to figure out where it fits into the FAQ.

I also doubt that a cooler block would help the diesel combustion process...VW engines don't run very hot.
