I am getting a dashboard message that says "replace brake pads" My rotors surfaces look good, can I have the pads replaced and keep my OEM rotors. The car has 101,000 miles on it. Can I go to a chain brake place like Midas? Should I purchase the pads at the VW dealer or will generic pads do. Should I have the brake fluid changed. Is this something I could do myself?

thanks

Yeh no problem at all, you only need to replace the discs/rotors if they're excessively worn or scored otherwise pads alone is fine.:)

You don't have to be so specific in your location field, otherwise I might show up at your house! You can edit it through your "user control panel" at the upper left.

FYI, at least measure the rotor thickness before you decide to keep them. Any generic pads will do but generally speaking hte more expensive OEM type pads dust less and are quieter than the sport pads. Yes you can DIY, see the FAQ for DIY.
