You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing and check systems out.
Any problems search TDI Wiki as that covers write ups and forum posts.
ah right well i am quite a fan passat wise ,,update i did compression test 380 on 3 cyl 160 on 1 other ,,,suspect stuck rings or even broken rings now ,,,trying to use water injection to decarbonise engine ,, might take some time though ,,how easy to remove sump and cyl head re ring the thing ,,tempting
Same-same here. I use a cassette style demagnetiser which has always done the job nicely but, from what Ive read in you post, would it be right to suggest a demagnetising wand would also be needed to demagnetise the capstan?
