I have a 2010 JSW with ~50k miles on it. This week the check engine light came on, and I hooked it up to a VAG-COM interface:
Address 01: Engine (CJA) Labels: 03L-906-022-CBE.clb
Part No SW: 03L 906 019 CL HW: 03L 906 022 TS
Component: R4 2,0L EDC G000SG 7274
Revision: 12H02--- Serial number:
Coding: 0050072
Shop #: WSC 08149 444 83815
VCID: 77F621197F4B

1 Fault Found:
001151 - Exhaust Pressure Control Valve: Stuck Open
P047F - 000 - - - MIL ON
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 11100000
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 20
Mileage: 80700 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2018.14.06
Time: 15:19:48

Freeze Frame:
RPM: 2507 /min
Speed: 21.0 km/h
Load: 44.3 %
Load: 34.1 %
Lambda: 100.2 %
Temperature: 24.0°C
Temperature: 29.7°C

Readiness: 1 1 0 0 0

I did a quick drive and watched the RPM, MAF sensor values, and Engine load (bank 3). Initially the MAF requested matched the Actual and the Engine load seemed responsible. Roughly 30 seconds after I started the car the Engine load got pegged at 100% and the MAF actually tracked at roughly double the requested value. This seems like it is probably related to the exhaust pressure control valve being stuck open.

Are there any suggestions on possible solutions to fix this? Where is the valve located and is it possible to clean?

Thanks for your help, Ian

Welcome to the forum. welcometomyturbodies

It shouldn't cost Ian anything to replace the valve its a warranty claim.

Well the UK warranty is 60,000 miles or 3 years so why is yours less?

It is 3 years 36,000 miles in the US. I am at around 59k right now. I still havent gotten this fix as the check engine light keeps coming of and off. It seems that when the tempertue rises to above freezing the check engine light comes back on (P047F every single time). Is there any reason behind this? I have not noticed a drop in preformance.

I got the same code. My dealer said it's a pretty common fault on the TDI. Fortunately, my car is still under warranty (@34.6K mi), otherwise, it's about a $600 valve according to the service advisor.

(off the record, he said he wondered why VW hasn't issued an extended warranty notice on this, kind of like they did for the window regulators on the Beetle, or heater cores on the mid-80s Golfs/Jettas).

Is it safe to assume that they would cover under the bumper to bumper(3yr/36mi), but not the powertrain(5yr/60mi) warranty?

I've never heard of the powertrain (5yr/60mi) warranty?

I know the HPFP warranty is 5 years.
Keith, can't speak for the UK, but here in the US, warranties are as follows:

3yr/36,000 mi Bumper to Bumper
5yr/60,000 mi Powertrain Components
7yr/70,000 mi Emissions Equipment through VW
8yr/80,000 mi Emissions Equipment mandated by Federal Government (catalytic converters etc.)
>VW must honor the Federal Emissions Warranty
12yr Corrosion Perforation

IF YOU HAVE P047F: This being said...push the dealer hard on the notion that this is an emissions component that has failed and it should be covered under the emissions warranty. I'm not sure if it is actually listed under the fine print for emissions, but I believe a few people have been successful getting them to replace it under this warranty. Good Luck!
