oil on cv joint

2005 passat has what looks like 75/90 wt gearoil on it.this is the left inner joint. there is no oil on transmission at all. it looks like it is coming out of the large side of the gaiter.it has slung oil out to crossmember and up no to firewall.I thought cv joint is seperate and packed with grease ?

It is separate. You could have engine oil leaking down and being blown back from the wind.
