I try to avoid having too many stickys so I changed the title to official prices paid - buying experience - dealer recommendation thread. If others start a similar thread it will be merged with this one. Other good sources for this general pricing information is zag.com and edmunds.com. I don't know how accurate those are so nothing beats reports from the field!
I did not end up buying it, but I got an offer from a dealer for $1000 over MSRP and that was after days of negotiation. Most dealerships in California have markups above this and this was the lowest I've seen so far.

The best price I saw was the $1000 over MSRP for a 2010 Golf TDI, 2door, Black, DSG, with Cold-Weather and Bluetooth, with markup it would have come out to $26,479.
Hey all, I'm new to this site. Last week I purchased a 2010 Golf TDI 4 door, manual, with sunroof, mats, and cold weather package. After a week or so of negotiating on the telephone, I ended up purchasing for MSRP, which was a few dollars shy of 25K. The dealership--which was 80 miles from where I live in San Francisco--initially was asking 3k over sticker, so I was very pleased to get it for sticker price. It helped that I purchased the car on the last business day of 2009, so the dealership was eager to make a deal. They even delivered my new baby on a flat bed truck for free. Another dealership closer to where I live wouldn't budge from their price of 3k over sticker.

I've only put 50 or so miles on car, but so far I love it! Very fun to drive.
Paid MSRP

We live in Southern Cal. We're looking for 2-dr TDI with DSG only. No dealer has the car exactly the way that we wanted and most dealers want $1000 over MSRP. Found a dealer willing to go $100 over MSRP. Finally bought it from a dealer in Bakersfield (100 miles away) at MSRP. It has a moon-roof and cold weather package. I figured that the sale taxes deduction should pay for 60% of the extra cost. No hard negotiation was needed and the dealer was very friendly.:thumbsup

Was your salesperson's name Jim Ballard? You may have bought the TDI I was looking at :thumbsup He was the ONLY dealership I got to offer me MSRP on an INSTOCK vehicle.
VW extended Warranties

Does anyone sell genuine VW Platinum Protection via internet? I bought a Toyota plan before over internet and saved a lot of cash!!!!!!!

Yes, I got it from Jim Ballard. The dealer in Woodland Hills offered me $100 over MSRP.

Yes, this guy does. I normally would never give out someone's name and contact info over the internet but he already advertises it:
Chris Farnham
VW of Langhorne
215-741-4100

Or at least you can use his offer as leverage at your local dealership.

Do not put emails in plain sight because they will get picked up by bots surfing the internet to be added to spam lists. Chris's contact info is already out there and you can't get email spam over the telephone.

I am curious as to which dealer in the Bay Area this is. We have been talking for many months to about half of the 16 different dealers in the SF Bay Area about buying/ordering a salsa red JSW with manual transmission and sunroof. We had our closest dealer locate one and negotiated him down to about $600 over MSRP. Just before 12/31 his manager pulled the plug, claiming he will get $3000 over sticker. For a salsa red JSW with M/T? Good luck.

There is a dealer in LA who said that he will order anything for MSRP, it's just that it is harder to deal with someone 400 miles away, then financing, pickup and pre-purchase inspections, etc. If we have some of the recently mentioned problems (engine light, etc.), I can't afford to spend a week in LA waiting for these problems to be fixed.

We are in the fortunate position that we are not in a hurry to buy, but already missed the 2009 tax break and the next one is slowly fading away as well.

If the dealer is in Newark, that Salsa Red is still there. Try again. :D
Paid $23,884 against $24,264 MSRP, so $380 under MSRP. Plus $100 for processing. 2-dr with DSG, heated seats and bluetooth. Purchased 12/18/2009 from Dover (DE) VW.
I paid Chapman VW in Scottsdale, AZ $24,325 ($833 under sticker) on 11/27/09 for my UGM 4 door, 6M, sunroof, cold weather pkg., bluetooth, rubber mats. My inadvertent bargaining chip? VW Credit wanted more down the week after I bought it, so the dealer cut the price to make it work. I only wish I made them keep the mats ($224), and got them separately ($99).

Now it's gone. :( We bought it. :)

Instead of paying the requested $3-4k over MSRP, we were able to negotiate ~$300 over, with a few additional perks with regard to financing and down payment.
I purchased a 2dr, DSG, BT, Winter ($24,264 MSRP) for $23,880 + $100 processing on 12/18/2009. I live in Baltimore and had to buy from Dover, DE which is a 2 hour drive. I would have preferred a 4-door with HID lights, but felt some urgency to buy after having a 4 door closer to me sold out from under me. The nearest dealer (2 miles away) would not budge off of $1000 over MSRP and didn't even have a car in stock. Special orders were not being accepted at the time by VWoA, so you get what's out there.
I'm curious which dealer you contacted. I live in east bay and Dirrito Walnut Creek and Broadway Oakland seem to have no interest in selling a tdi for less than about $2K over MSRP. Too high in my view. Any info on who to talk to would be much appreciated.

We talked to Michael Gonzalez from Winn VW. We were not in a rush to buy, so it took a few good months, but they finally located the one we wanted and then spent some more time to agree on the price. We missed the 2009 tax break and prices went up this January too ...

We were in contact with a few others in the Bay Area (Santa Cruz, Sunnyvale, ...), but they weren't very responsive, maybe because they didn't have in stock what we wanted.
Paid MSRP on a 2010 sportwagen with roof and rear airbags; 6spd manual; Salsa red with black pleather. No waiting, purchased site unseen - must have been delivered during the Christmas rush when others weren't looking.

580 miles first tank of diesel - no complaints other that the stupid bluetooth non-sense.
2010 prices

Look at http://www.vw.com/golf/pricelist/en/us/ and it has different base prices for the 2010 Golf TDI than you have posted at http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_to/a5/2010golfTDI_buyerschecklist.htm. Does your page need to be updated? Also, on your Jetta page you list prices for floor mats, could you add that to the Golf page?
I second the recommendation for Chris Farnam of Vw of Langhorne. Paid invoice for a 2010 Jetta tdi w/ 6spd manual with ipod, heavy duty mats, and 17" alloy wheels. Im in Texas so ordered the vehicle over the phone, it showed up exactly as promised and couldnt be happier. Chris is a real standup guy to deal with and gives great deals on tdi's.
