Note: It appears that the RNS-510 navigation system, Xenon HID headlights, and Dynaudio "light advanced sound" high option radio is available only on TDI and not gasser golf. There are some typos on VW's official site: bluetooth is listed twice and is call receive only, you cannot place calls through low 9w2 bluetooth. Dynaudio is 300w, not 600w.

Add $700 destination (mandatory).

Base price for a 2 door VW Golf TDI is $22,189 in the US.
2 door VW TDI w/DSG is $23,289
4 door VW Golf TDI is $22,789
4 door VW Golf TDI w/DSG is $23,889

Add $600 for the 4 door Golf
$700 for the HID xenon headlights w/AFS(highly recommended, option code p83).
$1750 for RNS 510 navigation system. (option code p71)
$1000 for the sunroof. (option code 3fe)
$225 Cold weather package - heated seats/windshield washer nozzles. (option codew79)
$476 for 300w Dynaudio excite high stereo. (option code 9ve)
$350 rear lower side airbags (avail. only on 4 door, head rear curtain airbags standard)
Bluetooth standard on US Golf TDI, otherwise $199 for bluetooth option code 9w2

Weight of a 2 door Golf is about 2930 lbs manual transmission, 2978 lbs DSG transmission.

PS, the tax credit with the DSG transmission is confirmed to be $1700.

That doesn't seem correct and it may be a typo. I've noticed a few on VW's site. I don't think it's due to the 17" wheels.

The 2 door Golf is probably 2929, the 4 door probably adds about 125 lbs, add another 124 for DSG. The 4 door doesn't just get the extra door which weighs more, it needs extra reinforcing, especially in the center column. So while it's heavier, it's probably slightly stiffer.

VW and Audi are positioning TDI as a sporty alternative to hybrids. $1000 really isn't that bad because the TDI has a premium over the gasser and they're trying to make money. The last I heard, VW was losing money importing mk5 Golf.
