2000 golf TDI 204K, no codes. If the glow plug light flashes when you turn the key, starts and runs fine. but if the glow plug light doesn't come on at all, no start. sometimes you can wait a few seconds/minutes and it flashes, sometimes you wait days and it flashes. Anyone else had this problem and if so, what was the problem?

Low-hanging-fruit: Check 109 relay. Sticky or perhaps socket connection is a bit iffy (lots of times simply reseating electrical stuff resolves issues).

Broke the ‘bad’109 open and found the braided copper was touching a ‘prong’…..not good. Essentially it was a short. Pressed the braided copper down. And added a small piece of electrical tape to the prong, reinstalled and have had no problem since. So now I’ve got an extra.
