I have a 2005 BRM Jetta and replaced the egr at 50 k and the DMF at 95k. So far my cam looks fine which is a welcome surprise. Tonight I'm ordering my timing belt kit and hoping to do this as soon as it arrives. I'm following the manual on change interval- 100k. I had thought about just doing the belt without the other $200 of parts, but then did some reading and chickened out. It seems an absolutely screw that VW uses cheap bearings so the tensioner, roller, and pump wear out so early. Nothing like planed obsolescence for part sales and service, but it's a bit short-sighted if you're looking for repeat customers. That's probably enough b*tching for my first post:)

You can get away without these extra things but it's not worth the hasssle especially on your side of the pond, at least I can pop to my local breakers and get another engine for £300 but you guys seem to be pretty screwed if it goes pear shaped.:)
