Hi, Eric from Salt Lake City here.
I've had a 2002 Jetta TDI since it was new. Great vehicle! Time for another timing belt change at 170k miles, which I'm considering doing myself. It also is throwing glow plug codes. I've tested the glow plugs - they function ok, so I think it needs a new glow plug harness. Any advice on this is welcome.

I also have three other turbo diesel vehicles:
1- 1984 Unimog 416 doka, which I converted from naturally asiprated to turbo
2- 1997 Freightliner Semi with a Cummins M-11 (used to tow the unimog)
3- 1997 Motorhome with a Cummins B5.7

Look forward to talking with you.

Hi there Eric. Another newbie with a 2002 Golf tdi. Just changed my timing belt about 5k ago. It was really not as complicated as I thought it would be (especially if you already have VAGCOM). At the same time I was also having trouble with a CEL do to a glow plug issue. And yep, turned out to be the glow plug harness. Pretty straight forward to change. I removed the battery/box and air filter box to expose the wiring harness that's housed within the plastic "tunnel". A lot of people unwrap the wiring harness to separate the glow plug harness from the rest of the wires in order to replace it, but I just ran the new GP harness wires separately to simplify future possible harness changes. Haven't had a problem since! Good luck!

johnson81,
Was the problem with your harness just corrosion in the connectors to the glow plugs? Seems if I clean and fiddle with mine, they are good for a month or so. Then the computer starts throwing codes again.

Thanks,
Yeah I think there was a build up of corrosion inside the harness. I messed around with it for months before I'd just had enough of staring at that annoying light on the dash and finally broke down and bought a new one.
