Bought my new to me 06 Jetta TDI at the end of April. I knew enough to start checking on the timing belt, which the dealer I bought it from has no record of it being changed. I'm currently doing my research and getting the parts to change it as the car now has 92k on it and going up rapidly with my work commute.

I have been into diesels for a few years, I bought a brand new 06 Dodge CTD in 06 and by the fall of 07 I had to put a clutch in it already due to some "minor" modifications. Now it is torn apart in the driveway getting twins, re-working the clutch, and 90HP injectors. Needless to say I know my way around a diesel, just gotta figure out this TDI.

Also check the camshaft. Worn lobes/lifters are a common problem, makes sense to do it if needed at the same time as the timing belt. See the FAQ for how to inspect it.

There's only one battery in your TDI :)

That is also on my list to check. The one thing I am not finding is about the EGR and putting in "race/test" plates on it. I found how to clean it though.
