Hi everyone. Have a great TDI averaging 52 Mpg. Last week the car started making a knocking noise very loudly and have decided it is the Dual Mass Flywheel going bad or has gone bad. Car has 96,000 miles on it. I purchased the car with 14,000 miles on it in Feb 08. Love the car. What brand flywheel and can I use a single mass or old style flywheel on this car. What brand pressure plate and disc also. Thanks

I replaced mine with another DMF and regret it. It doesn't have the same idle rattle as a SMF flywheel but a SMF just engages more smoothly. Answered in your other post, get a G60 flywheel, more details there. Don't mix luk and sachs parts because they're a little different.

Make sure the camshaft is OK. There's a FAQ article on how to inspect it. What other symptoms of this rattle are there? Idle only or while driving? This isn't an automatic DSG right? They can only use VW flywheels.
