Hello, I own Golf 2001 TDI (GLS w/Auto trans). I bought the car new and currently have 377,230 miles on it.

Not knowing much about VW, I bought the TDI because of the gas mileage. Since I do a lot of driving in my job, I wanted a vehicle that had good gas mileage and would last a long time. I wasn’t interested in a high performance car or doing any special mods to this end, just solid, reliable transportation. The Golf hasn’t disappointed.

I would say I’m a VW enthusiast because I appreciate a well designed vehicle but I really don’t like working on cars in general. I mainly work on them to save money and only when I need to.

The car still runs good but I’m trying to keep up on some needed maintenance and hope to gather some information from this site. Currently I’m replacing the VNT actuator and notice there may be some helpful advice in the resources section about this job.

Yes, that is true. Fortunately, mine has been pretty good. I did have someone rebuild part of it at around 320K miles due to slipping. Though even when it slipped, it wasn't too noticeable until you were driving up a steep mountain. Still, after the rebuild, it feels like it did when new.
