Do you have the OEM MFD2? I just added an ipod adapter and am pretty happy with it.

I ended up getting an aux-in off ebay with the ipod cable end instead of a 3.5mm jack. It works great and it charges the newer 5v ipods BUT I couldn't find switched power and was getting a lot of bad ground noise so I just forgot it. If you clean up the ground and find switched power it'll charge the ipod too. I tested with permanent 12V and it works. You have to manually control the ipod but vs. a 3.5mm jack adapter you don't have to turn up the volume all the way on the ipod.
It's plug-play and it keeps the CD changer.
