New member, massive overhaul and refresh project on my 02 ALH Golf.

I'm just hoping to find a bit more info on making sure the crankshaft is still at TDC when your putting the engine back together. Any pointers will be appreciated! I will post pics here later in case Antibes interested....

It should not have moved but the way to check for TDC is the flywheel stamp against the bellhousing. It sounds like the transmission isn't on.

If not, use a dial gauge through the glow plug hole on #1 cylinder to check for TDC.

If not, there is a small notch on the crankshaft pulley (serpentine belt pulley) that line up with a small mark on the timing belt cover. It's not accurate enough to do the timing belt but it's close enough so that you can put the camshaft on. I actually don't have any pictures, could you take some? Since your engine is out it sounds like you can get a good straight on picture and it will help many others as well.
