I'm just hoping to find a bit more info on making sure the crankshaft is still at TDC when your putting the engine back together. Any pointers will be appreciated! I will post pics here later in case Antibes interested....

Ok, just FYI if I wasn't clear enough... I rebuilt the entire motor, and the head, I do not have any paint marks on the crankshaft. So is there any way to double check that your crank stayed at TDC after the head is on, but I have not torques the cam shaft journal bolts so there is no danger of contacting the valves right now...

It should not have moved but the way to check for TDC is the flywheel stamp against the bellhousing. It sounds like the transmission isn't on.

If not, use a dial gauge through the glow plug hole on #1 cylinder to check for TDC.

If not, there is a small notch on the crankshaft pulley (serpentine belt pulley) that line up with a small mark on the timing belt cover. It's not accurate enough to do the timing belt but it's close enough so that you can put the camshaft on. I actually don't have any pictures, could you take some? Since your engine is out it sounds like you can get a good straight on picture and it will help many others as well.

I am getting a dial gauge on Monday, I actually thought about this just this morning!

Anyways I like the idea about the notch on the crank pulley I hadn't really given that much thought but I will look at that this evening. I have TONS of pictures of this project, I will share them with anyone that wants to view them!
