Hello my name is Jeff and I have a 2006 Jetta TDI that I just bought. It appears it has 179K on the original timing belt, and I figured it was due for replacement. From what it looks like, I will need many special VW tools to do the job? I have done timing belts on gas engines without issue and am hoping these are not much different. If anyone has any tips and tricks I would appreciate it. Thanks

Hey I just signed up as well. I also am looking to change the timing belt on my '06 TDI with 150K (we did change it at 80k as well, tho). Following links on this forum and at tdiclub.com I purchased all the tools and parts from www.dieselgeek.com for under $400. Much preferable than spending $1500 at a dealership.

Take a look at the timing belt article. The pictures of the special tools are there. I can rent them by request if you send me a PM.
