Hello everybody. I'm currently changing a water pump on an 06 Passat. The belt is very tight going back on so I called it a day. After visiting this site for the first time and finding the DIY procedure, I feel reassured that this is normal. Now I can't wait till daylight so I can finish it correctly instead of wondering if I did it right!

Great! FYI, the tensioner pointer is only accurate when the engine is cold and at TDC. Other positions or temperatures could move it a little bit so don't worry if it's off a little bit later.

Obviously, make sure the tab on the back is in place and that you tensioned it clockwise only. Also make sure the belt was straight and level on the sprockets.
