I'm new to the site but I'm going to attempt a timing belt change on a 2005 TDi Golf soon & could use all the info i can get my hands on.

Welcome! I believe the 2005 in Europe was a mk5 right? If so, take a look at the mk5 TDI FAQ section for the procedure. In North America the Golf was a mk4 in 2005 so the 2004 is in the mk4 section.
