Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I recently bought a 2005 Passat TDI. I had done quite a bit of research about the balance shaft issue before buying and I'm planning to do the switch to the gear driven unit some time over the next couple weeks (along with the timing belt). I'm wondering what else I should do while I've got everything apart. Are there other things that should be done? The car has just under 75k miles.

Thanks!

Water pump, timing belt tensioner, idler roller.

FYI, I do rent the VW special tools required for the balance shaft job upon request, send a PM if interested.

The motor mounts can't hurt either, check for pink stains around them. If so, they are shot.

You could also do the ATF fluid if it's never been changed. There are writeups for each of these in the FAQ Section.
