Just bought a new-to-me 2001 Beetle TDI. Guess the first thing on my to-do list is to replace the timing belt, since I don't know the history of the car and don't want to blow up the engine first time out. I've read the resources on how to do it, any help on what tools are needed and best places to buy them and parts too would be greatly appreciated! :thumbsup

Hi, welcometomyturbodies

There are some around here that hire out tools but isn't it all in the faq?:)

Metalnerd sells them cheaper than than the OEM tools. The parts numbers for the tools are listed so you can shop around. I rent the ALH engine tools upon request so if interested, send me a PM. Or you could see if they are avail for rent from the place that sells you the timing belt parts.

Also check out the new mk4 owner checklist for some other maintenance items.
