Hi just accumulating info on changing timing belt on 04 golf bew; anyone done this without the crank/cam locking kit?

I suppose some may have but you can't substitute the crank lock. Take a look in the writeup on the shape. The cam lock could be substituted with a pin. A hair movement will change timing as this engine's fuel is pressurized by the injectors and there is a difference if timing is off.
